PROJECT TITLE             The Fountains of İstanbul

AIM OF THE PROJECT   This project aims at creating awareness to protect and transfer our the cultural heritage to new generations. At the beginning of this project, our students questioned whether historical monuments in Istanbul are protected or not. As a result of their studies, they have concluded that historical and cultural heritage of Istanbul should be protected better. Therefore, our students have decided to take responsibility of repairing a historical fountain in İstanbul so that they can contribute protection of our historical and cultural heritage.

ACTIVITIES

This project has been started in February 2008 with the participation of 10 volutary students by Social Sciences Department.

Our students have prepared an action plan and carried out the following activities.

• Research about historical and cultural heritage of İstanbul as well as the fountains in Istanbul
• An interivew with Municipality of Fatih
• A field trip to “Cumhuriyet Fountain” and Ayakapı Neighborhood.
• An interivew with the chairperson of the parish council.
• A field trip to Sultanahmet, along with an interivew with Mr. Hayri Fehmi Yılmaz, an Art Historian.
• Student activies in the school(posters, slogans etc.)
• Preparation of a project web site
